Catholic Apps for Porn Addiction in 2026: What Each One Actually Does

Apps for porn addiction do one of three jobs: filters and accountability software block explicit content or report it to a partner (Covenant Eyes' Victory Shield, Ever Accountable, Canopy), recovery programs teach and track you through change (Relay, Fortify, Mend, STRIVE), and a smaller group helps in the moment of temptation and points you back to Confession (Holier). Only a few are Catholic in their design, chiefly Exodus 90, Little Way and Holier, and many men combine tools from more than one group, used alongside regular Confession.
We make Holier, one of the apps below. We've tried to be fair, including where another app is the better pick.
Accountability vs recovery vs help in the moment: what's the difference?
These apps get lumped together, but they work on different parts of the problem. Knowing which part you need saves money and frustration.
Filters and accountability software
These work on access. A filter blocks explicit sites and images. Accountability software watches what you view and sends a report to someone you chose, often called an ally or partner. Knowing a friend will see it is a strong brake.
- Victory Shield (by Covenant Eyes, Inc.) takes screenshots from Safari for your ally, reports explicit domains from any app, and blocks sites with block and allow lists, according to its App Store listing (October 2026).
- Ever Accountable uses on-device AI to detect explicit content across apps and sends weekly reports, with duration and severity, to partners you choose.
- Canopy filters explicit images, video and sites in real time. It's mainly a parental-control product, though you can install it for yourself.
Recovery programs
These work on the habit itself: why it started, what triggers it, and what to do instead.
- Relay is built around small, anonymous, gender-separated accountability groups with a group chat, video lessons and check-ins, and a personalized plan reviewed in a 15-minute phone call in the first week.
- Fortify offers an assessment, videos, challenges, tracking, coaching, teletherapy and a community, in a secular tone.
- Mend: Quit Porn with Christ is a Christ-centered program by a Christian therapist, with progress tracking and milestones, a temptation "Mend" button for prayer and truth reminders, a community forum and SMS check-ins.
- STRIVE is a free 21-day video-and-challenge detox for men led by Matt Fradd, now hosted on the Covenant Eyes website. It's a web program, not an app, and you register to join.
Help in the moment, and the sacramental side
The third group works on the minutes when the urge hits, and on the life of grace around them: prayer, an honest examen and Confession. This is where the Catholic apps sit. None of them blocks anything.
Which porn addiction apps are Catholic?
Three are built on Catholic practice:
- Exodus 90: Catholic Men's App runs the Exodus 90 program of daily reflections, disciplines and fraternity groups, aimed at "freedom from unhealthy attachments". It's not a porn tool as such; it's a program of prayer, asceticism and fraternity, done with other men.
- Little Way: Catholic Prayer has a Premium feature called Prayer Shield, which uses Screen Time to ask you to pray a Hail Mary before opening apps you choose. It's a speed bump, not a filter.
- Holier: Catholic Confession offers help in the moment of temptation and a nightly examen that prepares you for Confession.
Mend's listing describes it as Christ-centered and written for Christians; it doesn't present itself as Catholic. The filters and secular recovery programs work the same for a Catholic as for anyone else, and many Catholic men use them well.
How do the apps compare?
Prices and privacy details come from each App Store listing (October 2026). App Privacy labels are the developer's own report; Apple doesn't verify them.

Where does Holier fit, and where doesn't it?
Holier: Catholic Confession is a new iPhone app from Reconciled Software (iOS 17.6 or later; there is no Android version). When temptation hits, you open a chat that offers encouragement and a prayer. Each night it guides a short examination of conscience as a chat in the Ignatian examen tradition, and anything you name goes onto a numbered confessional list that opens with "Bless me, Father". It also counts the days since your last Confession and examen, and has a passcode lock. Your sin list is encrypted on your iPhone with a key that never leaves it; conversations are processed to power the AI, then discarded. You sign in with Apple. The download is free, and full use requires a subscription: $7.99 a week, $79.99 a year, or $149.99 once, according to its App Store listing (October 2026), with no free trial. It prepares you for Confession; only a priest absolves.
Be clear about what it isn't. Holier doesn't filter or block anything, doesn't watch your browsing, and has no accountability partner: nobody gets a report. If you need a wall between you and the content, or a friend who sees what you see, choose Victory Shield, Ever Accountable or Canopy. If you want a structured program or a group, Relay, Fortify or Mend fit better. Holier also isn't for Android users, anyone who wants a free app, children, anyone who doesn't want AI involved, or anyone looking for audio prayers.
What helps after a fall?
The hour after a fall is when shame does the most damage, and when an app matters least. What matters is turning back quickly.
- Tell God you're sorry, right away. Don't wait until you feel worthy. Sorrow that comes from loving God above all, with the resolve to go to Confession as soon as you can, already obtains his forgiveness (CCC 1452), and even sorrow mixed with fear is a gift of God and a real start (CCC 1453). See perfect vs imperfect contrition.
- Tell your ally or group, the same day. If you use accountability software or Relay, this is what they're for. Saying it before shame grows takes away much of its power.
- Look at what came just before. Late at night, alone, after a hard day? A short nightly examen shows those patterns over a few weeks.
- Plan your next Confession. Pick the day now.

Confession and porn: what do I need to know?
The Church teaches that pornography is grave matter (CCC 2354). Whether a particular fall was a mortal sin also depends on two more conditions: full knowledge and deliberate consent (CCC 1857 to 1859). Habit, fear and other factors can lessen how responsible you are (CCC 1735). You don't have to settle your own case alone. Bring it to your confessor; that's exactly what he's there for.
In Confession, the Church asks for the kind of sin and roughly how many times (can. 988 §1; CCC 1456), not a description. "I looked at pornography, about five times since my last Confession" is enough. We go through the exact words, and what not to describe, in how much detail to give when confessing porn. If you find yourself confessing the same sin every time, read confessing the same sins over and over; a regular confessor who knows your struggle helps more than any app.

How do I choose?
Ask what keeps tripping you up. If it's easy access, start with a filter or accountability app. If it's isolation, join a group: Relay, Exodus 90, or a men's group at your parish. If it's the moment itself, and the long road back to Confession afterwards, that's what Holier is for. Many men use one from each group. Comparing the accountability tools in detail? See Covenant Eyes alternatives for Catholics and Fortify vs Covenant Eyes vs Relay vs Victory.
Whatever you choose, you're not the first man to fight this, and God isn't tired of you.
Holier helps you prepare for Confession. It is not a priest and does not give absolution. For questions about your own situation, talk to a priest.
