Covenant Eyes Alternatives for Catholics (2026)

The main alternatives to Covenant Eyes are Ever Accountable (on-device detection with weekly reports to a partner), Accountable2You (monitoring reports instead of blocking), Canopy (real-time filtering) and Covenant Eyes' own free Victory app, plus recovery programs such as Relay and Fortify if you'd rather have a group or a course than software. Whichever you pick, the Catholic part comes from what you pair it with: regular Confession, and a Catholic tool for prayer and the moment of temptation, such as Exodus 90, Little Way or Holier.

We make Holier, one of the apps below. We've tried to be fair, including where another app is the better pick.

What is Covenant Eyes now?

There's no App Store app named "Covenant Eyes". Covenant Eyes, Inc. publishes two apps, according to their App Store listings (October 2026):

Covenant Eyes also hosts STRIVE, Matt Fradd's free 21-day porn detox for men, on its website (strive21.com now redirects there).

Why do Catholics look for a Covenant Eyes alternative?

These are practical differences to weigh, not a case against accountability itself:

Covenant Eyes is a widely used choice: Victory Shield has over 59,000 App Store ratings. If it's working for you, there may be no reason to switch.

What are the best Covenant Eyes alternatives?

Ever Accountable

Ever Accountable uses on-device AI to detect explicit content across apps, shows gentle warnings, and sends weekly reports with duration and severity to partners you choose. You decide who receives them and how much detail they see. Its listing says it uses on-device processing with no VPN and is certified to ISO 27001 and ISO 27701. Its website lists Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, Chromebook and Kindle.

Accountable2You

Accountable2You monitors browsing and app use and reports to your partners instead of blocking: full page titles, real-time reports, email alerts within the hour of questionable activity, daily or weekly summaries, and custom trigger words. It suits someone who wants a partner to see detailed reports rather than a filter.

Canopy

Canopy filters explicit images, video and sites in real time with AI. It's built mainly as parental control, with app, website and screen-time management, though you can install it for yourself. If you want a wall rather than a report, it's the closest fit here.

Victory by Covenant Eyes (free)

If cost is the issue, the free Victory app still gives you check-ins, short courses and a praying community without a paid plan. You lose the ally feed and blocking.

If you want a program, not software

Relay puts you in a small, anonymous, gender-separated group with a group chat, video lessons and check-ins. Fortify offers an assessment, videos, tracking, coaching and teletherapy in a secular tone. STRIVE is a free 21-day program led by Matt Fradd. Filters vs accountability vs prayer: which do I need?

They answer different questions.

Many men use more than one. Software on its own can become a hunt for gaps; prayer alone, with the door wide open, asks a lot of willpower at midnight.

Where does Holier fit?

Holier: Catholic Confession is a new iPhone app from Reconciled Software (iOS 17.6 or later; no Android). It offers help in the moment of temptation as a chat with encouragement and a prayer, and it guides a short nightly examination of conscience in the Ignatian examen tradition. Anything you name goes onto a numbered confessional list that opens with "Bless me, Father", and it counts the days since your last Confession and examen. Your sin list is encrypted on your iPhone with a key that never leaves it; conversations are processed to power the AI, then discarded. You sign in with Apple, and it has a passcode lock. The download is free; full use requires a subscription of $7.99 a week, $79.99 a year, or $149.99 once, according to its App Store listing (October 2026), with no free trial. It prepares you; only a priest absolves.

It is not a Covenant Eyes alternative in the strict sense. Holier doesn't filter or block, doesn't monitor browsing, and has no accountability partner. If you need those, choose one of the tools above. Holier is also the wrong pick for Android users, anyone who wants free, children, anyone who doesn't want AI involved, and anyone who wants audio prayers.

How do I pair accountability software with the sacraments?

  1. Let the software guard the door. Install it on every device, and ask your ally to hold the password.
  2. Examine your conscience each night. Five minutes: thank God, look at where you were tempted, say sorry where you fell, and notice what came just before. Here's how to pray the daily examen.
  3. Go to Confession regularly, and soon after a fall. The Church teaches that pornography is grave matter (CCC 2354). Whether a fall was a mortal sin also depends on full knowledge and deliberate consent (CCC 1857 to 1859), and habit can lessen responsibility (CCC 1735). Don't judge your own case alone: tell your confessor and let him guide you. For the words to use, see how much detail to give when confessing porn.
  4. Find one regular confessor. A priest who knows your struggle can help you far more than any report.

If you fall soon after Confession, read relapsed right after Confession. For the bigger picture, see how to quit porn as a Catholic, and for a closer look at the recovery programs, Fortify vs Covenant Eyes vs Relay vs Victory.
